VOICE
The human voice is a kaleidoscope of infinite chromatic and expressive possibilities. As unmistakable as a fingerprint, each voice is actually several voices. Tone, range, breath, resonance, brightness, cultural environment, personality and ancestry build up a complex instrument, full of possibilities for an actor on stage. Developing and improving our spoken and singing voice skills, our goal is to invite the students to become increasingly self-aware and help them bring to light the many voices within their voices.
IMPROVISATION
We'll explore all the possibilities of acting without script. Improvisation will be a very important skill in your career. You'll need it for auditions, workshops, stage writing with authors and whenever acting on stage or screen. Based on games and training, with or without speech, music, soundtrack, accessories, we'll explore the technicalities of improvisation for actors in training. The goal for you is to use improv as a technique to become a better actor-actress. To learn how to connect more with your partners on stage. To be fully truthful, in the moment, to tell a story and be totally invested on stage or screen. To be able to make many propositions to your directors, to create characters, to be inventive and playful. And also, to have fun.
Writing for stage and screen
Storytelling is a fundamental aspect of our humanity, fostering connections, communication, and captivating narratives. In this inclusive class open to students of all years, we will explore storytelling essentials from Aristotle to contemporary works. We’ll delve into the secrets of storytelling, from the 3-act structure to conflict dynamics. We'll sculpt characters, craft plots, and master the art of dialogue. Beyond theory, this class will transform your storytelling aspirations into reality. You are encouraged to bring your ideas to life, whether they are monologues, scenes, plays, short films, or feature film outlines. Together, we will refine your stories and ignite your passion for storytelling, making it a tangible skill for all.
Clown
In this technical class, we the world of physical comedy and the clown, training physical articulation and rhythm to demonstrate the fundamental principles of comedy and timing that create laughter. Clowning requires an awareness and sensitivity to the audience, which are both vital skills for an actor. We will explore how the smallest mask in the world (the red nose) can help you become a more open, free and generous performer. The work is varied and will range from various technical exercises to solo and group improvisations relating directly to the audience.
Body Work
Body work will allow students to really understand the discipline required for an actor to be a part of an ensemble and discover new ways of creating theatre with the body. Students will be pushed, learning the very physical theatre techniques in order to create trust and develop their imagination in a more explosive nature through the body.
Stand Up
A START IN WRITING AND PERFORMING STAND-UP COMEDY
This engaging and inclusive class, open to students of all years, offers an in-depth exploration of the world of stand-up comedy.
The curriculum delves into the theory of comedy writing with a special focus on stand-up, examining different schools, genres, and techniques to help each student find their unique comedic voice.
The class covers the essentials of comedy writing, including examples and analysis of routines. Students will craft a successful 5-minute routine, prepare live performances, and create a guide to find spots at comedy nights. By the end of the class, students will be ready to take the stage with confidence, having performed their material and refined their act.
